Your personal interest and hobbies can be a great way of making cash, but only if plenty of other individuals are interested in them too. One more scenario is when you find wholesale items that you think is absolutely magnificent, but no one seems interested in purchasing it.

It is a lonely work trying to educate the public on the benefits of an item all on your own. As wonderful as the wholesale items might be, it is nearly impossible to start a trend on your own. To make cash from a trend, you need newspapers and magazines, television and word of mouth to do some of the job for you.

There is also a risk in very large products. Unless, you already have experience marketing and shipping large products such as pianos or furniture, then it may be wise to start with something smaller. Shipping those large products is a major operation. Not only that, these products will sell less often than mid-priced products because they won’t attract the same number of impulsive shoppers.

Be cautious about marketing products too cheap, under ten dollars. It sounds like a great concept; after all, everybody likes a bargain don’t they? But products that sell for under ten dollars have one big trouble, and that is shipping. It is quite likely that the delivery for the product will cost more than the product itself and this can be very off-putting to shoppers.

For instance, if the product costs four dollars and shipping costs six dollars, the total cost for the product is ten dollars. If the shopper can buy the product at their local shop for eight dollars, then this abruptly becomes a much better deal. For small accessories and products, the way to get around this trouble is by grouping the products together, such as 5 tea towels or sets of 6 golf-balls.

Some products are too difficult to ship like the fragile china, plants. Of course these are not bad products to sell altogether. Many vendors do very well from these products. But it is not suggested that you sell such difficult products when you’re first starting out. Both these products have an above-average delivery risk, especially of not packed properly. As a new merchant, any negative comment you get at this early phase could be especially damaging to your career.

Many merchants think that the best means to get started on eBay is to vend products that everyone else is selling. Definitely those very hot products like cell phones, iPods, etc. will be a quick route to riches.
